Hydrogen
Shopify's React-based framework for building headless storefronts, with built-in commerce primitives, Oxygen hosting and Storefront API integration.

Hydrogen is Shopify's React-based framework for building headless storefronts. It's a Remix-based stack with first-class commerce primitives — cart, product, search, customer account — and tight integration with Shopify's Storefront API. Oxygen is Shopify's edge hosting platform tuned for Hydrogen, deploying close to shoppers globally.
The pitch is to make headless commerce on Shopify a paved path rather than a custom build. You get the Shopify-native ergonomics — cart bridging to Shopify checkout, customer accounts, analytics — without sacrificing the front-end freedom of a custom Next.js or Remix app. For Shopify Plus merchants going headless, Hydrogen and Oxygen remove a lot of the integration work.
The trade-offs are real. You commit to Remix and Shopify's hosting (Oxygen) for the smoothest experience. Some teams prefer Next.js, more flexible hosting, or a less platform-coupled architecture. The framework is still maturing, and migration paths from older Hydrogen v1 to v2 caught some early adopters by surprise.
Devinsta builds headless Shopify storefronts in Hydrogen and in Next.js, picking the right tool for the merchant's stack, team and roadmap. When the brief is Shopify-first and the team values speed-to-launch over framework freedom, Hydrogen on Oxygen is hard to beat.
